Kinder Practicum Period

When we teach English to young children we must use real elements and tools in the classroom. The knowledge should be familiar. What is more, the knowledge must be spontaneous.  It is very important that we do not force them to talk if they do not want due to the fact that we have to build a comfortable atmosphere of trust where they feel confident to participate. This sometimes takes time and sometimes not so much. 

Flashcards, pictures and all the visual support we offer them will be great to present new words since these capture their attention and curiosity. In addition to this, it is important that students relate images with words as they internalize new sounds and pronunciations. Then, the questions will also call their attention since everyone likes to participate!. Also, we must not forget to use a lot of colors and big letters because the kids will understand better without many explanations and little by little they will assimilate the knowledge. 

What about music? This is a wonderful tool to teach L2! It is very important that we know that the songs are not taught. That is to say, after listening to the songs several times without realizing children will sing them alone.  Learners also can relate gestures or movements with the lyrics of the songs. All in all, learning by playing will make them learn naturally, unconsciously so, we must adapt the games based on the group that we are working.

Diagnostico de grupo:

Es un grupo de 19 alumnos. Algunos tienen 5 años y otros 6 que por razones de organización están juntos en el aula y sus niveles son los mismos. La docente se llama Romina Paola Hernandez, traductora de inglés,  ella hace ya algunos años que trabaja como docente en el intituto. Romina me cuenta que es un grupo muy activo, nunca faltan a clase, les encanta participar, cantar y hacer diferentes actividades.

En cuanto a los conocimientos y el nivel que los alumnos poseen, ellos escriben muy poco y lento asique se respeta un rutina donde escriben la fecha, como esta el clima y su nombre. Reconocen al docente y a sus compañeros, además tienen sentido de pertenencia con el lugar, reconocen el aula y la cuidan.

Prism Institute es un instituto privado de inglés con una trayectoria de mas de 20 años, dónde se enseña el idioma a más de 100 alumnos de diferentes niveles y edades.

Teninedo en cuenta que hoy en dia el idioma inglés forma parte de nuetra vida cotidiana es necesario enseñarlo de manera significativa para que los alumnos puedan comunicarse en situaciones cotidianas. 

El tiempo destinado para esta primera etapa o periodo fue: una observación de clase de 90' y dos clases prácticas de 75´cada una.

Utilicé varios recursos como canciones, fotocopias, láminas y juegos como bingo y dominó

Para que los alumnos me entiendan y poder lograr una buena adquisición y aprendizaje, las intrucciones fueron dadas usando repeticiones, mimicas, gestos, y explicaciones cortas y sencillas. Además luego de cada clase tuve las correcciones necesarias de la profesora del grupo y de la tutora de esta práctica docente, Aurelia Velázquez.

This is my journal. Here I wrote all the feelings and anecdotes that I lived during this first practical period. I would like to say that it was a very comfortable experience since I had never worked with children.
